From Environment Canada weather office

The special weather statement for North and West Vancouver Island has ended.

———————————————————————

==DISCUSSION==

A rapid transition from a cold arctic airmass to much milder Pacific air will take place over the South Coast on Friday as a major Pacific storm approaches the coast. An initial impulse of moisture will move across the Coast tonight resulting in a light dusting of snow to all regions. The main part of the storm will arrive on Friday bringing a period of heavier snow in the morning before the transition to rain or a brief period of freezing rain. At this time it’s uncertain if snowfall amounts will exceed 5 cm near the coast.

For inland areas the snow will switch over to freezing rain later in the day. Therefore, accumulations will be more significant.

The public should be prepared to alter plans or in some cases avoid travel according to weather and road conditions. The forecasts will change as the storms develop and warnings will be issued as required.

Road conditions can be monitored at www.drivebc.ca.

THE PUBLIC IS ADVISED TO MONITOR FUTURE FORECASTS AND WARNINGS AS WARNINGS MAY BE REQUIRED OR EXTENDED.

PLEASE MONITOR THE LATEST FORECASTS AND WARNINGS FROM ENVIRONMENT CANADA AT WWW.WEATHEROFFICE.GC.CA
